Tulsa Shootout Wednesday: The Intensity Heightens For KBR Drivers As Heat Race Action Picks Up

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Wednesday morning at the 40th Annual Tulsa Shootout loomed large for Kyle Beattie Racing and SKE Chassis as the consequences of the results they achieve in heat race action would get even more intense.

Karter Beattie, Nathan Meendering, Tanner Tucker and Hunter Yeany all ran heat races Tuesday night for the "Winged Outlaw" division, and although each one showed the speed to make the transfer, all of them fell short so they will now have to run the "C" or "D" mains scheduled for Wednesday night and transfer up the "alphabet soup" ladder one last chance race at a time, a tall task against over 270 of the best drivers in the nation (including Kyle Busch) to make the 24-car starting lineup for the "A" main on Saturday.

They will also run today's Winged "A" Class heats, giving them twice the opportunity to gain experience and dial in their cars.

London McKenzie has one of his two divisions scheduled for heat-race action on Wednesday, that being the Non-Wing Outlaw class. His Stock Non-Wing heat action will be on Thursday.

Colt Bailey will see action in the Junior Sprint division today as he attempts to transfer out of his heat race directly to Saturday's "A" Main.

Wednesday's race schedule includes heat races during the day for Outlaw Non-Wing (McKenzie)
Restricted "A" Class Winged (Halpain, Beattie, and Tucker), Winged "A" Class (Beattie, Yeany, Meendering, Tucker) and Junior Sprints (Bailey).

How They Fared

London McKenzie started the day off well for the team, starting ninth in his Outlaw Non-Wing heat and charged to a hard-fought fifth-place finish.

Nathan Meendering started second and finished third in his Outlaw Non-Wing heat race and then started third and finished fourth in his Winged "A" Class heat.

Unfortunately, Owen Halpain was tossed into the wall by another competitor in the Restricted "A" Class Wing competition and turned over. However, the KBR team rallied around him and got the car back in racing condition, and the 12-year-old pilot drove a tremendous race to go from tenth to fifth in the Winged "A" Class heat race.

Karter Beattie ran away with his heat win in Restricted "A" Class Winged and then drove from ninth to fourth in Winged "A" before a steering bolt broke on the final lap costing him a strong finish.

Tanner Tucker started third and ran a smooth race to finish second in his Winged "A" Class heat race.

Colt Bailey started eighth and finished seventh in the Junior Sprint heat race and he will race in either the "C" or "D" qualifier on Friday as he seeks to work up through the last chance races to the "A" main on Saturday.

Thursday's schedule includes...

Makeup "Winged Outlaw" heats that were postponed Wednesday night due to curfew (Yeany, Meendering, Tucker, Beattie)

Stock Non-Wing Heats (McKenzie, Beattie)

Junior Sprints "E", "D", and "C" Mains (Bailey)

Outlaw Non-Wing "E", "D", and "C" Mains (Beattie, McKenzie)

Winged "A" Class "E", "D", and "C" Mains (Beattie, Yeany, Meendering, Tucker).

Race action starts at 8am Central Time with the makeup "Winged Outlaw" heats that were postponed from Wednesday night.
